I Learned Most of
This The Hard Way.
So Now I Tell Stories About It.
Hi, I'm Laura.
I’m the founder of Good Grit, an iconic Southern brand built on telling damn good stories that matter. I’ve started businesses and nonprofits, raised capital, sold a company, and spent the last two decades learning how storytelling can create impact, trust, and real momentum.
Everything I get involved in has to have a reason to exist. I want the work I do to really help people not just look good on paper. Throughout my life I’ve had some real wins. I’ve had epic failures. And failure just happens to be one of my favorite F-words (not my very favorite😉), because it has and continues to teach me things success never will.
I’m not interested in having it all figured out. I’m interested in doing the work, learning as I go, and being as generous with what I’ve learned as possible. Oh, and I’m pretty damn passionate about getting a little better every day.
Show up a mess. Show up late. Show up hopeful. Just don’t stop showing up.
Show up a mess. Show up late. Show up hopeful. Just don’t stop showing up.
Show up a mess. Show up late. Show up hopeful. Just don’t stop showing up.
Speaker
Keynotes • Workshops • Conferences
Speaking, to me, is a way to take the wild, hard-earned story of my life and work and turn it into something useful—something that brings rooms to life and gives people clarity about what comes next.
My talks sound like:
- Leadership without pretending you’ve got it all together
- Burnout, boundaries, and why clarity beats toughness
- Personal responsibility that actually gives you your life back
- Mental health as part of being human, not a personality trait
- Story as a practical way out of stuck places
Podcaster
Mental Health • Story • Healing
I co-host Before You Cut Bangs, a podcast about therapy, patterns, growth, and the messy middle.
It’s where we talk about:
- The cycles that keep us stuck (and how to name them)
- Therapy without the whispering
- Why “I’m fine” is usually a lie
- Growing up, growing out, and growing forward
- What happens when you stop polishing your life
We laugh. We stop pretending. We move on.
Writer
Articles • Essays • Book
I write about the things I’ve already lived through—leadership mistakes, burnout I didn’t see coming, boundaries I learned late, and the stories we tell ourselves to survive.
My writing shows up across magazine features, essays, and I’m also writing my first book (April 2027).
My writing explores:
- Story as a tool for healing and clarity
- Outgrowing where you came from without hating it
- Faith, doubt, and responsibility
- Learning to live awake instead of on autopilot
- What comes after survival
- Mother wounds
