" Wearing a mask wears you out. Faking it is fatiguing. The most exhausting activity is pretending to be what you know you aren’t. "– Rick Warren
What You Need To Know:
Me, in a nutshell... (that quote above...pretty much)
I'll be the first to tell you I wore a mask for so long that it took many years to peel away the layers and find myself again.
It still takes practice to be genuine in myself and my relationships.
Blogging boosted this authentic life I've built and I'm so thankful for the outlet as well as the many readers who have helped me as much as they claim I've helped them.
Anything else you need to know? Freelancing Word Muse by day. Blogger by choice. Mom 24/7. Animal lover always. Occasional "smart-butt" (we don't say "ass" in my house)!
~ I am a perfect contradiction: Creative but love order. Compassionate but analytical.
~ Chronic Googler. I research the crap out of things. I ask questions. I just GOTTA know or it kills me!
~ I live for smoothies. Endless options for what can be blended together. Enjoying meals in liquid form will come in handy when I'm 103.
~ I'm 6' tall and the girl next-door type (wait! not a dating site. Sorry ;-)
~ I live in the great pacific northwest- beautiful during the 3 days a year it doesn't rain. I wouldn't trade the green for anything though.
~ My family life looks like something out of a Dr. Seuss book. Two young kids, 3 rabbits, 2 dogs, and 1 fish, 1 hamster, not including whatever the kids catch on their outdoor adventures.
~ I keep current with trending social issues, politics, and psychology studies, which means I have no time to be a fashionista or DIYer.
~ I have Rheumatoid Arthritis- diagnosed 7 years ago. Managing life is tough but I'm as determined as ever.
~ Life experience; College Sports Coaching, Hypnosis, Bartending, Human Resources, Social Media Marketing, and of course...Blogging.
The HL Website
~Once upon a time I had a corporate career gig, but my new family needed my time and attention (they were more than worthy of my awesomeness)! Instead of being torn between work and family, I began to pursue my own path...and here I am! But it started with listening to who I am, and getting real about my life.
I've been blogging 8 years- originally for other sites who censored me so I spread my wings and started Honestly, Laura. Censorship is crazy nowadays- what a shame! People just got more anonymous, fake, or nasty online.
My website reflects my passion for honesty!
I don't want anyone to be ashamed of their own opinion, or finding their voice, because this is what makes us unique...and human. Anti-sheep mentality please!
I learned early in my writing, the more I opened up and tackled tough topics, addressing life's imperfect truths, adding a healthy dose of reality and insight, the more others opened up too. It's a genuine connection between myself and my readers.
Before I post anything. I do my research from all angles on any given topic. I play devil's advocate too.
The feedback I receive is phenomenal! It doesn't hurt that what I do, gives me joy.
