(Let's discuss "creative visualization" and "active meditation". Is everybody on board with this? Of course you are, because it sounds less kooky than hypnosis, right?! But that is hypnosis! I'm going to call it like it is (HYPNOSIS), but you can use those other terms if it makes you feel better.)
My mind often argues with itself. Does anybody else have this problem?
For example, the BE POSITIVE movement makes me GET GRUMPY. It's a conscious struggle for me when somebody else is telling me how to be. It makes me feel like I need to be simple-minded or naïve to accept that desirable sate of hooey-gooey positive mind and body! Seeing the good in everything when clearly there's a whole vast landscape out there- full of everything in between,
Maybe a climb up Mt. Everest would get my mind off my own mind! My odds are probably better devoting my life to the ways of a Buddhist monk.
That's not me! However, I realize ME doesn't have it all figured out either. I have room to grow. I could possibly clear out space in my busy mind for simple-ness and positivity. Shove aside some realism and pragmatism for better clutter. Try to see less of the actual situation and more of what it could be, like what the fairy godmother saw in Cinderella. A dirty pumpkin into a royal coach! Brilliant!
Happily-ever-after's aside, it's difficult to merrily ride along on the positivity bandwagon for some people. Life can feel like 90% willpower and 10%...sleep!
For as long as I can remember I've received positive reinforcement for being cynical, silly, and sarcastic (not all positive traits). My brand of humor has had positive outcomes though, like making people laugh under stress.
But there comes a time when we need to make positive changes in our lives. I could just put on some blinders, I mean rose-colored glasses, and hunker down into La-la land.
After all, my kids live in La-la land and they're happy little creatures (who eat ice cream without calories)! We play card games and while I've got my eye on the prize (nothing less), they're celebrating small wins throughout the game that I can't even see as any kind of victory (unless it's the ultimate victory of winning).
What does La-la land have to do with hypnosis? Well that's almost obvious. Finally! I'm addressing the elephant in the room. Hypnosis; the only La-la land I'm down with.
Hypnosis is a detailed, purposeful, and guided script of positive affirmations.
If you've ever been caught daydreaming or spacing out. Congrats! You were under a natural state of mind called hypnosis. You can't make it through a day without experiencing it! Seriously!
There is purposeful self-hypnosis that only talks to you on a subconscious level. The most basic of your self- your simple self. I'm not getting into the 'subconscious' part of it (Read more here) because this would soon turn into a dreaded textbooky blog post.
All of us have a positive side- a positive subconscious.
This means I don't have to TRY and be positive or use willpower to make positive changes. I can get all the benefits of positivity without changing my glorious realist image. And for those who just find positivity cumbersome? Want an easier route? This is the answer.
Positive affirmations and enforcing a positive attitude is only accepted by a relaxed mind. How many of us are trying to be positive or implement say, healthy eating habits, during stressful times or state of mind? Not working so well...or it's really quite the effort?
Hypnosis relaxes you so that your mind is able to easily and effectively accept positive affirmations. Don't let those positive messages go to waste on a stressed mind! That is way more work and willpower than any one human should have to endure.
WHAT DO I KNOW?
(I'm not coming out of left field on this. I was a bartender at 21 with a stack of hypnosis books waiting for me to devour on my break. A man missed his ferry to Seattle and came in for a drink at the bar. He noticed my books and thought it peculiar I was so young and interested in this subject. He happened to be the co-owner of a school of hypnotherapy. We conversed. He trained me. I was an enthusiastic student. The rest is history.)
I've been studying it, informally practicing it, and using it for 20 years. I took some time off to rear my babies, but have picked it up again since one of those babies still has trouble sleeping at age 9! One night, instead of a bedtime story, I read her a hypnosis script from my book. It helped her relax and sleep- Mom uses hypnosis. It re-awakened in me all the benefits and possibilities I'd forgotten. There are so many ways to utilize it too.
Hypnosis is only effective when employing positive words. Rule #1 (put rather negatively): Avoid negative words. For example, do not use "Do not". Keep it relaxed and positive- that's the kicking combo there!
For all the realists, pessimists, negative Nellies, pragmatists, stubborn-brained, refill-the-damn-glass-if-it's-half-empty people? Hypnosis.
Wants and willpower only get you so far. Hypnosis gets you further. Positivity band-wagoners accept the idea that thoughts program your reality. Visualization is a key tool of positivity...and hypnosis.
Hypnosis is less effort unless you are a naturally positive person (most people actually are not- something to do with evolution. Negative people who prepared for danger didn't get eaten by the tiger).
Forget about your cave days or all the effort you put into seeing the good...in everything...ohhhh...how exhausting. Incorporate hypnosis into your life. Self-hypnosis is something you can do at home, on your time.
2.Increased focus & concentration.

10. Enhanced career path.
12. Strengthening the immune system.
Get on the hypnosis band-wagon! Remember the giant guy who talked about awakening your inner giant? Tony Robbins- one of the most successful self-help gurus! He uses practical hypnosis strategies in his practice for self-change. He knows what's up...and so do you now!

ANNOUNCEMENT: In the upcoming weeks, I'll be adding to my NEW Facebook page:
HAPPINESS AND HYPNOSIS
This is a subject matter I feel comfortable enough with to post a lot of worthwhile resources, even specific plans and scripts for common issues.
Still got a picture of someone quacking like a duck, per a hypnotist's request? For those who know me, I'm a very logical individual- the last person you'll see chanting under a full moon or rain-dancing in the middle of summer. My focus in Psychology was behavioral (I like real solutions). I'm interested in what will genuinely help someone and move them forward.
Real results (too cliché?)
I'm passionate about no-nonsense self-improvement. Too many of us are plagued by faulty thought patterns- I aim to change that!
